I continue to underestimate the time it takes to complete something like this when I only have hobby hours available, but I’m almost there…

Story Update

I’ve addressed all the small issues I discovered when I made my way through the final edits, so I think this is as good as it gets. I even added one additional scene that I think helps with the worldbuilding, but of course most people won’t ever know how close it was to never existing. I’m sure there are still some mistakes readers will uncover, but I think the most obvious are resolved.

I’ve begun working through the final ebook template, making sure the format looks professional. It’s always the little things that can be surprisingly irksome (a blank page not appearing, unwanted sections making their way into the table of contents), but it’s exciting to see it in its (pen)ultimate state.

Plan

I want to finalise the ebook format in the next week or so, and then release a preview version. Depending on timing, I may send a mid-month email so subscribers can be the first to give it a read.

I didn’t work much on the newsletter, so I’ll try and put time aside to start building that. I’m committed to releasing The Radiants before the end of the year. I just need to work on every writer’s favourite task: marketing.

Cool Science

I only recently learnt about the hypothetical megastructures known as Dyson Spheres, which are constructed around stars to harvest their energy. However, I did not know that scientists are keeping their eyes out for them. Scientists have been looking for strange readings from stars should there be interference from a strucutre harvesting their energy. It’s an interesting way to search for alien life, as (in theory) only the most advanced civilisations could create such megastructures. Although the two signatures investigated were proven to be interference from other galaxies, I really like the concept of a Dyson Sphere and what it could mean for a civilisation.
